To eat or not to eat - Abhishree Karkera

Health & Mind Club

In today's growing world everyone has a common concern about “their looks ,face or body”. Even the simplest thing like their teeth can play a huge impact on the person and how they perceive themselves. Amongst both men and women they both worry about their weight to the point where it starts controlling their lives but we can’t blame ourselves since its the way society portrays the world. The more prettier or the more fit you are more people will accept

you , you will be considered perfect and who doesn’t want to be perfect ? Feeling guilty for eating when you’re hungry is like  breathing when your lungs need oxygen. We’ve

literally been taught to be ashamed of our basic human needs

It has become so common for adults to skip meals to attain their ideal looks that it is even influencing teenagers and kids to follow the same painful and harmful method to obtain their ideal looks and due to this they start developing eating disorders .

An eating disorders is a mental disease , one that controls your life and over powers everything else you once cared about , it transforms you into a different person stealing your personality and happiness and replacing them with fear , anxiety and loneliness . Being  consumed by an eating disorder is an endless cycle of manipulation . This disease will consume and rob you of everything that has ever bought you joy and happiness. This disorder will not make you happy and beautiful  but instead you end up skipping meals , you become  afraid to eat in front of people, you fear gaining weight. You try exercising even if your body is on the verge of giving up  and you become moody , irritable and you begin avoiding friends and social activities. The worst of all is that you start looking at others as scales and not normal people .This is the harsh and brutal truth that surrounds an eating disorder .

Even If we all ate the same and exercised the same our bodies would still look different from one and another .Concern about weight is not necessarily abnormal , however the thought that only if we weigh a certain amount can we be considered beautiful which will eventually lead to happiness or otherwise consider ourselves worthless is wrong  . We aren’t worthless starving yourself will not pay off , you need to eat , you need to realize

your worth and your worth is not based on your weight.

You are worthy of love , happiness and affection you are beautiful even if you have scars but what truly makes you beautiful is your inner beauty.

Having good mental health is key to the healthy development and well-being of every child. Children need good mental health - not only to be able to deal with challenges and adapt to change, but so they can feel good about themselves, build healthy relationships with others and enjoy life.

It is said that you must treat your body like a temple and the greatest of pillars have the strongest of bases. If your body is that pillar then your mind is that base. The discourse around mental health in school has exponentially increased and the Health and Mind Club has played a massive role in making that happen. It gives me immense pleasure to be leading the club and encouraging our members to use the club as a catalyst for the mental well being of the school. We strive to stamp out the stigma and provide an all inviting, all accepting platform.

Ask us anything :)

Thanks! We will get back to you very shortly

Mental health is not a destination, but a process. It's about how you drive, not where you're going."
Mental health is equally important as physical health. It includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, which affects our day to day life.
The aim of the Health & Mind Club is to  ensure that we students have a healthy and positive mindset.
