The stigma around Mental Health by- Tushar Tyagi

Health & Mind Club

The stigma around Mental Health – What sends a person crazy is how he is treated by others and not how he treats himself.

Have you ever heard about this fruit Durian? People without even trying it hate it, disregard its smell and despise its taste. However, locals seem to love it – A LOT. Now replace Durian with people suffering from mental illnesses, the statements I just made somehow, still sound true right?

This is exactly how our societies are right now and indeed, this fact is truly depressing. The attitude we have for mental health in today’s world is exactly the opposite of how it should be like – We instead of being more understanding, cooperative, motivating, encouraging and supportive are in fact, harsh, ruthless and accommodate feelings of hate against them within ourselves.

Is this right? Absolutely not. Mental health is as important as our physical health and especially those who suffer from it – ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF OUR SUPPORT. This is not an illness, but it has been made one because of our mentality.

This is just a condition which makes a person feel lonelier, alone and lost. Looking at my reasons? All of these are in a direct relationship with us, the human-community.

All these people need from us is a bit of support and happiness. There’s just a hint of difference between happiness and craziness. It depends on us, as to which side we prefer more. It’s all up to us, our decisions and our influencing is what affects the planet.

Its time we start considering this normal, not create a ruckus around it and in fact, behave absolutely fine with them. When there are no differences, there are no issues. Let’s give this world another chance, another ray of hope and LET’S JUST SUPPORT THE ONES WHO NEED US. Its time to smile and spread happiness. Just keep one fact locked in your mind – CRAZY means Creative, Reflective, Amazing, Zappy and Youthful. Its time for change and we have to be the ones initiating it.

Having good mental health is key to the healthy development and well-being of every child. Children need good mental health - not only to be able to deal with challenges and adapt to change, but so they can feel good about themselves, build healthy relationships with others and enjoy life.

It is said that you must treat your body like a temple and the greatest of pillars have the strongest of bases. If your body is that pillar then your mind is that base. The discourse around mental health in school has exponentially increased and the Health and Mind Club has played a massive role in making that happen. It gives me immense pleasure to be leading the club and encouraging our members to use the club as a catalyst for the mental well being of the school. We strive to stamp out the stigma and provide an all inviting, all accepting platform.

Ask us anything :)

Thanks! We will get back to you very shortly

Mental health is not a destination, but a process. It's about how you drive, not where you're going."
Mental health is equally important as physical health. It includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, which affects our day to day life.
The aim of the Health & Mind Club is to  ensure that we students have a healthy and positive mindset.
